Your bedroom is your haven. It’s the place you go to relax, to sleep, to have some time to yourself. It’s also the place you get ready to start the day. Not to mention, it’s the room you spend the most time in, given how much time you spend in bed. So your bedroom needs to be fully functional, practical, and completely relaxing. Despite this, our bedroom is still one of the last rooms we focus on when designing our homes, paying more attention to the communal rooms.
Creating this beautiful paradise is much easier than it sounds, to help you we have put together some handy tips for designing your own practical and relaxing bedroom.
Fitted wardrobes
Everybody needs a wardrobe for their clothes, it’s an essential part of the bedroom. So the wardrobe you choose has to be perfect, in terms of size and matching the interior design. This is why fitted wardrobes are the ideal option. They blend in flawlessly with the design of the room to create a minimal feel that leaves the room looking less cluttered and creates a more stress-free environment.
Lighting
Every morning you are going to be getting dressed and getting ready in your bedroom, so you need to be able to see what you’re doing. You also need a dimmer lighting option for times when you don’t want full lighting and/or you are trying to create an ambiance. As well as this, you need natural lighting, not just as an energy saver tool but also because natural sunlight promotes healthier well-being.
So think about what you use for your windows and how much light this might block out. Also think about overhead lighting and wall lights, as well as lamps. Make sure you have the right lighting for any situation and then you can always relax.
Mirrors
Mirrors are a fantastic way to make a room look lighter, brighter, and bigger, as mirrors reflect light around the room. They are also an essential part of getting ready in the morning, everyone likes to check their reflection to make sure they look okay.
What’s more, mirrors are a beautiful addition to the room, they can even become a feature of the room, adding the wow factor. There are lots of different styles, sizes, and types of bedroom mirrors available, so it should be easy to find something that works well with your décor.
The Bed
Don’t underestimate the impact an eye-catching bed can have on a room. The frame, the mattress, the bedding, and the pillows, all make a massive difference to both the look of the room and how much enjoyment you get out of it. You need a bed frame that matches the feel of your room, but also something that suits your needs.
For example, if you like to sit up in bed reading, then you might choose a bedframe that has an upholstered headboard. After the frame, you need to choose a mattress that supports your preferred sleeping habits, to ensure you have the best night’s sleep possible. The bedding is important again, not just for how it looks, but also for how it feels. Having more luxurious bedding can help you to relax.
Rugs
Rugs are a stunning feature of the room, but they also add a luxurious feel to the room. They keep the room warmer and feel soft and fluffy under the feet, making the flooring more comfortable to walk on barefoot.
Additional areas
If you have the space in your room, consider adding additional features. For example, a chair or two and a bookcase can make a beautiful reading corner, helping you to get the most out of your bedroom and enjoy it a little more.
Sleeping needs
When you do redecorate your room, think about any particular sleeping needs you have. Some people need to sleep in complete darkness, others prefer to have some light. Some people like to have a window open; others need a warmer environment. If you consider these before you start designing the room, then you can incorporate these into the design.
For example, you could install blackout blinds to create darkness, or a dimming lamp that you can make bright for reading or dull for sleeping.
Nightstands
Our final tip, make sure you have nightstands and/or surfaces to place things like your lamps on, but also things like water, your book or tv remote, a clock, etc. These are all little comforts that will make using your bedroom much more pleasurable.
You don’t have to do everything on this list, just a few will be enough to create a bedroom that you can relax in and use efficiently.
